Creativity Unites for Loeries Week

With the Loeries Creative Week currently on the go (15 to 21 August), Durban has become a hub for showcasing creative excellence in Africa and the Middle East. Loeries® Creative Week ™ Durban welcomes global thought leaders, the most talented creatives and progressive brands to gather and network as the week culminates into the biggest brand communications awards ceremony in the region.

Here is the Loeries A to Z:

A is for Africa & the Middle East – Loeries® Creative Week ™ Durban is the largest creativity showcase for the brand communications industry across Africa and the Middle East.

B is for Brands – For brands, the Loeries® are about identifying creative work that has the potential to set them apart from their competitors and positively contribute to brand equity.

C is for Creativity – this year the Loeries® ‘Creativity Unites Africa Middle East’ campaign focusses on bringing creative minds together for networking, sharing, and inspiring creativity in the region.

D is Donovan Goliath – Comedian and Creative Director of Goliath & Goliath is the Loeries® Creative Voice for 2016. The one factor that the Loeries® and Donovan have in common is a passion for inspiring the youth.


E is for Expo – There will be an exhibition showcase from the official partners of the Loeries® at the Durban ICC Foyer on Thursday, 18 August from 12pm to 7pm and Friday, 19 August from 7am to 7pm.

F is for Fringe – The Fringe festival gives Durban businesses, individuals and creative-related events the opportunity to make their mark on the city with their own creative flair during Loeries® Creative Week™ Durban.

G is for Grand Prix – The highest and most coveted accolade to receive at the awards, the Grand Prix is the biggest of all Loeries® statues.

H is for Hotels – Tsogo Sun is the Official Loeries Accommodation Partner – with 4 hotels which are meters away from the best beaches along the Golden Mile and in close proximity to the ICC.

I is for I Heart Loeries Market – The Loeries® brings Durban’s best craft market to the beachfront on Sunday, 21 August from 9am to 3pm.

J is for Jury Presidents – Jury Presidents this year include some of the most iconic and creatively talented individuals in their field and they will be heading up some of the key judging panels this year. They include CEO of Amusement Park Entertainment in LA, Jimmy Smith, Digital icon and Creative Director of Mr President in London, Laura Jordan-Bambach; Global Chief Creative Officer of FCB New York, Susan Credle and seasoned Creative Director from Sydney, Bridget Jung.

K is for KZN – KwaZulu-Natal and the City of Durban has been the official host for the Loeries® Creative Week™ since 2015. The city is fast becoming the home to major events in the country and has become a formidable filming and conferencing destination for many brands.


L is for Loeries® Award Ceremony – Taking place over the last two nights of Creative Week Durban, Saturday, 20 August and Sunday, 21 August, this is the most highly anticipated ceremony in the brand communications industry. From the glitz and glamour of the red carpet fashion to the sought after Grand Prix, Gold, Silver, Bronze statues that winners will walk away with on the night.

M is for MasterClasses – A debut for the Loeries® Creative Week™ this year are the MasterClasses taking place on Thursday, 18 August at Tsogo Sun Elangeni Hotel. Presented by Donovan Goliath, Accenture, Google and Mike Schalit for IAS, the MasterClasses are interactive sessions designed to inspire and educate.

N is for Networking – The Loeries have brought in new networking hubs to create more opportunities to interact and connect. The DStv Beach Café, Elangeni Patisserie at the hotel foyer, and the Tall Ships Bar which is the late night stop at the Elangeni Hotel are the places to rub shoulders between rubbing shoulders.

O is for Obvious – Loeries® Creative Week™ Durban is obviously the best networking event, creativity showcase and altogether fun time you will experience in the region. And as if that isn’t enough, you have the beach right in front of you!

P is for PRISA National Conference – All PR agencies and practitioners can have their fill with a two-day conference hosted by the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa at Tsogo Sun Elangeni Hotel on Wednesday, 17 August from 8am to 5pm and Thursday, 18 August from 2pm to 5pm. And don’t forget about the MMA SA Mobile Marketing Leadership Forum taking place on Thursday, 18 August at Tsogo Sun Elangeni Hotel from 1pm to 6pm.

R is for Red Carpet – Celebrities and creatives will share the spotlight as they floss and flaunt their flashy, glamourous and creative outfits on the Loeries® Red Carpet.

S is for Seminar –  Hosted annually at Loeries Creative Week™ Durban, the DStv Seminar of Creativity will bring seven international thought-leaders to share their insights on the creative industry. Delegates will be treated to an inspiration session while the speakers share the value that creativity adds to business, art and their lives. The speakers this year include Jury Presidents Jimmy Smith, Bridget Jung, Laura Jordan-Bambach and Susan Credle as well as Vice President of Personal Care at Unilever in Nairobi, Debra Mallowah, Vice President of Global Business Marketing at Facebook in New York, Sarah Personette and Google Creative LAB – Lead in Moscow, Marco Cremona. The 2016 DStv Seminar takes place on Friday, 19 August at the Durban ICC.

T is for Transport – Event shuttles travelling frequently between different venues to and from the Tsogo Sun hotels will be available daily throughout Loeries® Creative Week™ Durban.
